The Link Wheel Strategy

Posted February 11, 2010 – 5:59 am in: Linkbuilding, SEO

link-wheelAn amazing 68% of Internet searches never make it past the first page of results! What does that mean for your web site? Simple, if your site doesn’t show up on the first page of organic search results for your keyword, then you’re missing out on the majority of the traffic searching for your product or service.

Since most people understand that traffic is the lifeblood of a website in order to get new leads, conversions or sale, the question is how do to get to the top of search engines to capture the traffic to your website?

One extremely effective search engine optimization (SEO) strategy to help sites increase their rankings is building a “link wheel” around the website.

What is a Link Wheel?

Simply put, a link wheel is a series of web properties that link directly to your website (aka the “hub”) as well as interlinking to one another (aka “spokes”). For example, website A has a link to website B as well as to your website. Website B then links to Website C and also back to your website as well. The last website in the wheel points back to Website A (and to your website). By using this strategy, you are not only building links directly to your website, but also to each of the other properties.

Why is building links to other websites (that contain your information) important?

First, the websites that you are using are high PageRank (PR) social Web2.0 properties such as Google Knol, Quizilla, Hubpages. These sites have high authority in the eyes of the search engines so those pages will often rank quicker and higher than your target webpage. Second, by building several different websites that contain your content, you increase the chances that you can have several spots in the top 10 results and, therefore, increase your chance to capture that traffic. It’s not uncommon for a properly developed link wheel to secure 2-5 positions out of the top 10 spots depending on the keyword that you select.

In the end, link wheels are an amazingly effective SEO tactic to not only increase your target website’s ranking, but also to have multiple properties listed in the top spots of the SERPs.

if its from different niches you will have to use 10 different link wheels, otherwise you need to use the most appropriate keyword. You need to use the “best” keywords for each niches before you use the link wheel by using keyword analysis tools
